What is THAT?

Ewww... doesn't this look gross?

Well it kind of is....
It's chicken bones, skin and fat floating in water.

Contrary to the "American Diet" chicken fat and all that good stuff IS actually good for you and has very beneficial properties.

Obviously, everything in moderation, but it is a healthy broth and best of all YOU know what's in it. There are no additives, just good ole' broth and a little sea salt.

If you cook it for a couple of hours you get this beautiful stuff.

I strain it into some plastic containers when cooled and pop it into the freezer for future soups or sauces.

I'm all for economizing these days.

No waste and it tastes SO good!

Making your own chicken broth! GREAT idea! I just throw out the bones!

That is a great idea! I never take the time I should to prepare...I really need to work on that!

Hi! I am in Montgomery County PA! I know I need to start making my own stock but I never do! Since you appear to be an expert I'll learn from you. :)

BTW, have you tried an organic farm share to cut down on grocery bills? I saw your post on "A Warm Cup of Coffee"

I'd go for that instead of the boxed stuff. Industrial stock is nasty.

I love this time of the year! I start cooking and freezing for the nights I just don't want to cook. I always feel like such a smart person when I put broth in the freezer! It really does taste better and comes in so handy when cooking later.
